I painted a car once


The prep work is enormous.

0. Clean it really good
1. Sand out all the cracks
2. Putty dings, and sand the hell out of it
3. Primer 1 and 2
4. Tape everything you don't want painted(chrome, windshield)
5. Primer coat
6. Paint it

I would guess they won't do a lot of these things for $500, but you should ask what they do for prep. You could do a lot of it yourself too and bring it in.

The sanding out of the old cracks makes a big diff btw
